Hi, I'm Michiel. I am Senior Research Scientist at DeepMind where I work on large language models and human-AI interaction. Before joining DeepMind fulltime early 2021, I was a Computer Science PhD student at MIT, working with Prof. Alex Pentland at the MIT Media Lab. I also hold a bachelor's and master's degree in physics from TU Delft, where I worked on quantum computing at QuTech and IBM Quantum. 

 

My research currently focuses on fine-tuning large language models to make their output more aligned with human goals and values. Additionally, I am excited about applying large language models to mediate human interactions, helping people cooperate and make better collective decisions.
